Insider’s Guide to Capri & The Amalfi Coast
Capri & the Amalfi Coast have perfected what the rest of the Mediterranean is still trying to learn: how to make high-octane glamour feel like a natural extension of the landscape.
There is a deep, cinematic sophistication here with the limestone cliffs plunging into the Tyrrhenian, the scent of wild lemons in the breeze and the glitter of the Faraglioni. But none of it feels precious. This is still Italy, where a sun-drenched terrace and a crisp glass of Falanghina are the only requirements for a perfect afternoon.
What sets this region apart is how it balances its dual identity. You can spend your morning navigating the designer treasures of Via Camerelle and your afternoon drifting into the emerald silence of a hidden sea cave. From the vertical charm of Positano to the high-altitude peace of Ravello, every turn on these winding coastal roads feels like a discovery.
Need to Know
Currency: The Euro (EUR). While cards are the standard, one must carry cash for the open-top taxis in Capri—those charming drivers prefer the tactile nature of paper.
Language: Italian is the tongue of the coast. While English is spoken in the upper echelons of hospitality, a polished buongiorno or grazie mille signals you are a guest of taste, not merely a tourist.
Key Phrases: buongiorno (hello), grazie (thank you), per favore (please), mi scusi (excuse me), un tavolo fuori (a table outside), molto bene (very good).
Arrival: Naples International (NAP) is your gateway. From there, a private car to the pier and a private boat transfer to Capri is the only way to arrive; the public hydrofoil is far too spirited for a lady or gentleman of your standing.
Transportation: In Capri, you walk or you take the iconic open-top taxis. In Amalfi, the roads are a winding ribbon of drama; unless you are a local professional, do not attempt to drive. A private chauffeur is the only civilized choice.
Best Time to Visit: May through September is the quintessential window. July and August are the peak of the social theater, while May and September provide that "old-world" atmosphere where the sea is warm and the crowds are thin.
Ideal Length of Stay: Seven days is the minimum to truly absorb both the island pulse of Capri and the cliffside romance of the Amalfi Coast.
Capri & Anacapri
Capri Town is the island’s polished heart, while Anacapri offers a more tranquil, authentic atmosphere higher up in the mountain.
Where to Stay
Punta Tragara
A terracotta-hued masterpiece perched above the Faraglioni. It offers arguably the best views on the island—art-deco elegance met with rugged coastal beauty. Ravishing sea and island views from most of the stylishly decorated rooms and suites, two magnificent pools, a fabulous restaurant and a hidden beach makes this an irresistible spot in which to stay. Guests who book with me also gain access to exclusive perks.
JK Palace Capri
Effortlessly chic and boutique. It feels more like a private residence for the "in-crowd" than a hotel, with a contemporary take on Mediterranean luxury. Set into the cliffs of the enchanting island of Capri the hotel has twenty-two rooms that echo the style and the concept of a luxury house with another element to boost the charm of the site the light and color of the sea. I have a suite of exclusive perks waiting for you here to ensure your stay is as seamless as it is scenic.
Grand Hotel Quisisana
The legendary "living room" of Capri. If you aren't seen on this terrace for an aperitivo at least once, were you even on the island? All is intimate luxury from the inviting sofas and sparkling chandeliers to the spacious comfort of your room. The penthouse suites enjoy spectacular views over the Faraglioni rocks. Relaxing by the circular outdoor pool is irresistible and those seeking personal pampering will find a range of soothing treatments at the QvisiBeauty centre. The Amalfi Coast: Amalfi & Positano
The mainland coast is a vertical masterpiece of pastel villages and lemon groves. If you are dreaming of cascading bougainvillea, sun-drenched lemon groves, and the kind of cliffside glamour that feels like a scene from a 1960s film, then Positano is calling your name! There is simply nowhere else on earth that captures the "La Dolce Vita" spirit quite like this vertical paradise.
Where to Stay
Hotel Miramalfi
A cliffside classic in Amalfi, modernized into a sleek retreat with a spectacular private beach club. Il San Pietro di Positano

With its own private funicular whisking you down to the water, it is the definition of Amalfi ease. I have a suite of exclusive perks waiting for you here as well to ensure your stay is as seamless as it is scenic.
Borgo Santandrea
Borgo Santandrea is one of the only hotels on the Amalfi coast with its own private dock – and sitting above the well-kept ruins of a Saracen fortress, the hotel certainly feels at one with the region’s history. Rooms are mid-century chic. Think vaulted ceilings, clawfoot tubs and cool, white-tiled flooring. Arched windows overlook the sunlit sea and a sleepy, yellow-brick fishing village known as Conca dei Marini. All 45 rooms face this infinite stretch of blue, while only a precious few adjoin their very own infinity pool. I have a suite of exclusive perks waiting for you here as well to ensure your stay is as seamless as it is scenic.
